MORE ABOUT LARRY
Larry Williams
The quorum court is the county's legislative
branch of government, comprised of Justices of
the Peace, who are elected for two-year terms.
The quorum court levies the county taxes, fills
vacancies in elected county offices, has the power
to override a veto of the county judge by a three-
fifths vote of the total membership of the court,
and may adopt ordinances necessary for the
conduct of county government. The chief power of
the quorum court is that it appropriates public
funds for expenses of the county. The quorum
court has the power to fix the compensation of
each county officer within a minimum and
maximum determined by law, and it also fixes the
number and compensation of county employees.
